Oscar's Creamery - History Oscar's Creamery, founded in 1955 as Puritan Ice Cream in Cresco Iowa by Will “Oscar” Rathert, has been a local favorite for generations. Oscar brought his Business to Houston in the mid ‘60’s and settled in the Champions area. Oscar’s recipes were developed by his grandfather during the ‘30’s. These family recipes have changed little over the years and contain only the highest quality ingredients. According to Oscar “there is no substitute for quality. We still make our Ice Cream the way my Grand Dad did in the old days.”  We use cream with 14% butterfat content because it produces an incredibly smooth textured Ice Cream. All of our ingredients; candies, flavorings, fruits and nuts are of the highest quality available. We produce our Ice Cream in small batches to further insure quality, freshness and flavor. We use a 10 gallon batch freezer built in 1965 to our specifications. Originally we sold our Ice Cream to the finest restaurants in Houston. Our Spumoni is a time honored old fashioned recipe that many Italian restaurants use. Our Ice Cream has since been served in over 50 ice cream scoop shops in the Houston area. Oscar’s has produced over 4 million scoops of premium ice cream. Oscars has been family owned and operated since its inception and we are dedicated to producing this Super Premium Ice Cream - Ice Cream that is truly Out of This World!
